There can be no doubt that 2011 was the year of Yani Tseng. Throughout the course of an incredible season, Taiwan's premier sportsperson confirmed her status as the world's most dominant golfer. However, her stream of victories also highlighted another issue — the gender bias that remains in the world of sport.

Tseng won an unbelievable 12 tournaments in 2011, becoming the youngest golfer ever to win five major championships. Not bad for a year's work. However, for a star who has been referred to as the "female Tiger Woods," it should be pointed out how much more money she would have made as a male golfer. Woods won US$3.57 million (~NT$107.5 million) for winning his first five majors, while Tseng walked away with US$1.77 million (~NT$53.3 million) for hers. In the 1999 season, when Woods won eight tournaments including one major, he earned over US$6.6 million (~NT$198.8 million). Compare that to Tseng's total earnings this year: The smiling star from Taoyuan earned just over US$3.4 million (~NT$102.5 million) for winning 12 championships.  中文
