奧圖潘錫勒是最近一本以殭屍為主題的選集編輯，他認為殭屍已經被忽視太久了；而身為狼人和吸血鬼等較具人氣生物的醜陋遠親，殭屍由於近來人氣提昇，終於得到了一些關注。

潘錫勒指出：「我們從《卓古拉公爵》小說、安妮萊斯筆下的雷斯塔，到史蒂芬妮梅耶斯的小說角色中，看到的吸血鬼都衣冠楚楚、講話口若懸河、十分有教養而且文質彬彬。牠們只是剛好有咬人頸部並吸血的小怪癖而已。殭屍則真的長得很醜，連穿晚宴裝也不好看。牠們是完全不同的東西，殭屍的形象更為極端。」
